HM Treasury
HM Treasury is the United Kingdom’s economics and finance ministry, responsible for developing and implementing the government’s economic and financial policy. Established in the twelfth century, the department oversees public spending, taxation, financial services, fiscal policy and economic growth. It works closely with the Bank of England, financial regulators and government departments to promote stability, strengthen the UK’s financial system and support sustainable long term growth.
Alongside managing the public finances, HM Treasury plays a central role in shaping policy across banking, payments, digital finance, capital markets and international economic cooperation. It regularly works with domestic and global institutions on issues including financial regulation, sustainable finance, digital innovation and the future of the UK’s financial services sector.
