European Commission

The European Commission represents and upholds the interests of the European Union as a whole, operating independently of national governments.

It proposes legislation for adoption by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament, and is responsible for implementing EU policies and managing the EU budget. This includes overseeing key programmes such as agriculture, fisheries and research, in close cooperation with authorities in the member states.
