Trade Treasury Payments launches its inaugural magazine: “There’s No New Normal”

London, UK – April 2025 — Trade Treasury Payments (TTP) has officially launched the first edition of its new flagship publication, There’s No New Normal, a magazine created to inform, educate, and connect the global trade, treasury, and payments community. Arriving at a time of deep geopolitical uncertainty, economic fragmentation, and accelerating digitalisation, this issue is both a reflection on where the industry has come from—and a provocation for where it needs to go next.

The launch of TTP and its publication was born out of a simple but shared feeling among professionals across the space: a need for clarity, context, and an independent voice. “When we first imagined TTP, it was as a solution to something many of us were experiencing—information overload, institutional noise, and a sense of being disconnected,” said Deepesh Patel, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of TTP. “We needed a platform that wasn’t beholden to sales agendas, but rather one that served the community—whether you’re at a global bank or exporting for the first time.”

TTP’s mission is focused on open access, knowledge sharing, and helping every market participant navigate today’s increasingly complex landscape of liquidity and risk. The platform aspires to bring the same transparency and trust to the world of global payments and finance that educational pioneers brought to personal investing in years past.

The inaugural issue opens with a look back at the seismic shifts of the past decade. In the “10-Year Lookback” section, leading industry voices chart the evolution of working capital, risk, and innovation. Sean Edwards, Chairman of ITFA, reflects on the expanding scope of supply chain finance, including the growing role of MDBs, non-bank platforms, and AI-powered delivery. Richard Wulff, Executive Director at ICISA, examines how trade credit insurance has evolved from a niche risk tool into a vital mechanism supporting SMEs, with increased emphasis on ESG and regulatory transparency. Meanwhile, Alan Koenigsberg, founder of Koenigsberg Insights and former global head at Visa and JPMorgan, explores the shifting nature of payments—from check digitisation to real-time infrastructure and embedded financial services.

Eleanor Hill, Treasury Editor at TTP and founder of Treasury Storyteller, captures the transformation of treasury itself, in an essay tracing how the function has moved from the back office to the boardroom. Hill identifies five major shifts in treasury over the past decade, from the rise of AI and APIs to the return of structured risk management and the growing role of ESG and diversity within the treasury function.

The “Trade and Tariffs” section takes a harder geopolitical lens, examining the implications of global policy divergence and tariff realignment. Gabrielle Reid, Head of Advisory at Pangea-Risk, unpacks the impact of the United States’ renewed protectionist stance under a second Trump administration—from the collapse of multilateral frameworks to the uncertain future of AGOA. Her analysis highlights the regional response through AfCFTA, the surge of Gulf investment in Africa, and the resilience being fostered through South-South collaboration. A wide-ranging interview with BAFT President and CEO Tod Burwell adds further perspective, examining the resilience of global banking, correspondent connectivity, and regulatory adaptation in the face of change.

Elsewhere, the issue turns toward the digital infrastructure underpinning trade and finance. Contributions from leading experts, including Eleonore Treu of ICC Austria and Pamela Mar of the ICC Digital Standards Initiative, explore the practical impact of MLETR, tokenisation, and standards-based interoperability. Geoffrey Wynne, Head of Trade & Export Finance at Sullivan, provides a legal and structural deep-dive into the receivables finance landscape, spotlighting the shift toward platform-based solutions and deep-tier financing models enabled by the UK’s Electronic Trade Documents Act.

This is not a publication for passive reading—it is an open invitation to engage, share, and shape what comes next. In the words of Patel: “This first issue is just the beginning. It’s a platform built brick by brick by the community it serves. We’re listening closely, and we welcome you to walk the orange brick road with us—to learn, to challenge, and to reimagine what’s possible.”
