Mayer Brown facilitates $400 million SACE push facility for Eletrobras

Mayer Brown, a law firm, has advised Citibank, a bank acting as coordinator, and SACE, Italy’s export credit agency, on a $400 million syndicated loan facility extended to Eletrobras, Brazil’s primary electricity company and the largest in Latin America. 

This loan is part of SACE’s Push Strategy, designed to create new opportunities for “Made in Italy” exports to Brazil’s energy sector, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy. ​

The funding aims to support Eletrobras’ ambitious growth plans in the coming years by enhancing business prospects for Italian companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and facilitating their entry into the Brazilian market. 

This will be achieved through “Business Matching” activities, including targeted meetings between Eletrobras and Italian firms, to foster new collaborations and expand export opportunities in the years ahead. ​

The Mayer Brown team leading this transaction included partners Ash McDermott (London), Eduardo Lima, and Priscilla Santos, along with associate Ingrid Pistili (all based in São Paulo), and trainee William Maddison (London). ​

Eletrobras, officially known as Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A., focuses on power generation, transmission, and distribution within Brazil’s electricity sector and has been actively investing in renewable energy projects, 

SACE, Italy’s export credit agency, launched its Push Strategy to promote Italian exports by supporting foreign buyers and facilitating their access to Italian goods and services.
