Afreximbank announces USD 500 million trade finance package to support African institutions
- Afreximbank has proposed a USD 500 million trade finance package consisting of a 3.5-year USD 400 million Trade Finance Line of Credit and a 3-year USD 100 million Risk Participation Agreement with an option to extend for 6 months.
- The tenor of underlying transactions for both instruments will not exceed 2 years.
- The facility aims to enhance Afreximbank’s credentials as an emerging confirming bank and expand its capacity to provide liquidity support to financial institutions and corporates across Africa.
- The package is designed to promote intra-Africa trade and regional integration in line with Afreximbank’s sixth strategic plan.
- Strategic objectives include improving agricultural and industrial production, enhancing trade-enabling infrastructure, and expanding intra-African trade and regional integration.
- The initiative also targets job creation and poverty reduction across the continent.
