National Bank of Bahrain joins BENEFIT’s Trade Finance Registry as first participating bank
- BENEFIT announced at Fintech Forward 2026 that the National Bank of Bahrain has become the first participating bank and anchor banking partner in the Trade Finance Registry project.
- The initiative aims to de-risk trade finance through collaboration with Singapore-based MonetaGo and Bahrain FinTech Bay, with BENEFIT operating the platform and Google Cloud providing infrastructure.
- The Trade Finance Registry will enable participating banks to cross-check invoices in real time, helping identify suspected fraud and attempts to obtain financing against the same invoice from multiple lenders before funds are disbursed.
- As an anchor banking partner, NBB will support implementation and assess the platform against banking needs and operational requirements, with other banks also participating in development.
- The registry provides shared verification mechanisms to support informed financing decisions and detect risks that individual institutions may struggle to identify independently.
- Beyond trade finance, the project lays the foundation for a broader national collateral registry covering a wider range of assets used to secure financing, with early experience informing future design requirements.
