CLP Power and HSBC Launch Sustainable Supply Chain Finance Programme in Hong Kong
Live Updates
CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) and HSBC have entered into a strategic partnership to launch a new Sustainable Supply Chain Finance Programme to enhance Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance among local suppliers.
Signed on 28th January 2026, this initiative integrates CLP Power’s sustainable procurement framework with HSBC’s sustainable finance solutions to drive a low-carbon transition across the supply chain and contribute to Hong Kong’s sustainable development goals.
“CLP Power is committed to promoting sustainable development, actively reducing carbon emissions in our business operations,” said Joseph Law, Managing Director at CLP Power.
He further added, “To deepen collaboration with our partners, and encourage suppliers to integrate ESG principles into their operations, CLP Power is collaborating with HSBC to launch the Sustainable Supply Chain Finance Programme to support suppliers at different levels of the sustainability journey, encourage continual improvement and amplify the benefits through their value chains, in order to build a solid foundation for Hong Kong’s low-carbon transition journey.”
Objectives of the programme
The programme uses ESG assessment criteria to help suppliers spot improvement areas, adopt sustainable practices, and strengthen resilience.
HSBC supports suppliers by offering more flexible payment arrangements at preferential rates, contingent on meeting predefined ESG performance indicators. These indicators are based on third-party sustainability scoring, with a particular focus on measuring, reporting, and reducing carbon emissions.
A digital platform is a core component of the programme, enabling efficient management of applications, documentation, tracking, and reporting for both CLP Power and its suppliers. This technological integration facilitates transparency and streamlines ESG monitoring within the supply chain.
Doris Wong, Head of Global Corporates, Hong Kong, Corporate and Institutional Banking at HSBC, expressed satisfaction in supporting CLP Power’s inaugural Sustainable Supply Chain Finance Programme. At HSBC, we remain committed to providing solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients, ensuring we work together towards long-term positive impact,” she added.
Future collaboration and industry impact
CLP Power plans to engage closely with suppliers, collaborating with HSBC to offer guidance, training, and tools that improve sustainability performance. The goal is to encourage more suppliers to participate, amplifying the programme’s impact across the industry.
The programme directly ties financial incentives to ESG performance, promoting sustainable practices in Hong Kong’s supply chains. It also reflects a growing recognition among corporate and financial sectors that sustainability is integral to operational resilience and long-term value creation.
