Sibos 2026: Swift connects domestic payment systems to enable seamless cross-border transactions
- Swift is connecting domestic instant payment systems including Bizum, PayID from Australian Payments Plus, and Pix to enable cross-border payments using familiar identifiers such as mobile phone numbers, emails and virtual payment addresses.
- The initiative builds on Swift’s consumer payments scheme launched in June, which now involves more than 100 banks and has already improved payment speed, with 75% of payments reaching receiving banks within 10 minutes.
- Participating organisations span four continents, including Australian Payments Plus, Banco de Crédito del Perú, Banorte, BBVA, Bizum, Bradesco, CaixaBank, Citizens Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, DBS, IDFC FIRST Bank, Ouribank, TerraPay, and Veritran.
- The approach aims to remove complexity from international transactions by enabling users to send money abroad using the same simple identifiers they already use for domestic payments.
- The framework enables full-value transfer, greater predictability and faster settlement at global scale for consumer payments.
- The initiative aligns with efforts to transform the cross-border payment experience by making international transactions as intuitive and accessible as domestic ones.
