From the [digitalising ….. event] [Vashti from commonwealth] presents a number of policy recommendations to achieve paperless trade.
- modernize the law
- pilot digital transactions
- connect systems
- security and resilience
- build public capability
- support SMEs
- Mobilise investment
- target country support
With all of that, it is important to remember that a great law is only as good as people have the ability implement it.

“Paper, paper, everywhere”
Hopefully not for much longer when it comes to the Kenyan trade ecosystem. The ICC and EBRD high level workshop on digital trade in Kenya kicked off this morning in Nairobi.
In the opening sessions, participants heard from Anna Brod-Ohana, Julius Opio, Ndiritu Muriithi, and Hon Lee Kinyanhui.
Some key takeaways so far:
- The future of trade will be digital, and the biggest winners will be those that prepare for it.
- reliable digital trade cannot be built on unreliable data.
- Kenya has invested heavily in digital infrastructure, so it is possible to access internet from as many places in the country as possible, even on Safari.
- Kenya is determined to lead, not follow.
More to come throughout the day!
