Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, the commercial insurance division of the Swiss Re Group, has reached an agreement to acquire the Global Trade Credit and Surety business of QBE Insurance Group (QBE), pending regulatory approvals.

The acquisition would enhance Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ primary credit and surety insurance offerings. It will expand the company’s capacity to meet the evolving risk management requirements of corporate clients. This move aligns with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ strategic objective to diversify its portfolio and pursue new growth avenues.

QBE’s Global Trade Credit and Surety business operates through a seasoned team with a significant presence in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The portfolio is projected to generate approximately USD 200 million in annual revenue.

The strategic Significance

The specialty insurance sector addressed by this acquisition plays a crucial role in assisting companies in managing payment and performance risks associated with accounts receivable.

This segment commands around USD 19 billion in annual premiums globally. Growth prospects are robust, driven by increasing economic uncertainty, more complex supply chains, and rising demand for advanced risk transfer solutions.

Ivan Gonzalez, CEO of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, said, “This acquisition marks an important milestone for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. It allows us to expand our offering in this attractive segment by strengthening our global credit and surety platform with a well-managed, profitable portfolio and a highly experienced team. We are excited to build on QBE’s market-leading capabilities as we continue to differentiate our offering to help corporate clients navigate the evolving risk landscape.”

Next steps and regulatory process

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. This includes regulatory approvals, which may take several months.

During this period, Swiss Re Corporate Solutions will collaborate closely with QBE to ensure seamless continuity for policyholders, brokers, and the team members integral to the transaction. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
