IKEA Supply AG, the global logistics and supply chain arm of the Swedish furniture retailer, has joined the Digital Container Shipping Association’s DCSA+ partnership programme. It is the first cargo owner to participate in the initiative aimed at accelerating the adoption of shared digital standards across global container shipping.

The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) is a non-profit, carrier-led standards body founded to create open, interoperable digital standards for global container shipping. Its members include 10 of the world’s largest ocean carriers, representing roughly 75% of global containerised trade.

DCSA+ is the implementation-focused partnership programme created to bring the those standards into reality. While DCSA historically worked with carriers, DCSA+ expands participation to ports and terminals, freight forwarders, technology providers, feeder operators, and now, for the first time, cargo owners (starting with IKEA Supply AG)

IKEA Supply AG, part of Inter IKEA Group’s Supply business, oversees the global flow of IKEA products from more than 1,500 suppliers to retailers in over 60 markets, making it one of the largest logistics operations in the home-furnishings sector.

The company said its participation reflects a wider effort to enhance transparency, automation, and predictability in its containerised transport flows. As part of the DCSA+ programme, IKEA will support work on harmonised data definitions designed to improve visibility and reduce integration complexity across the transport chain.

“We believe collaboration is the way to make global shipping more efficient and predictable,” Ewelina Taylor, Global Transport Manager at Inter IKEA Group said in a press release about the announcement. “By joining DCSA+ as one of the largest shippers globally, we aim to contribute to better information sharing and traceability of goods in transit. It is through Initiatives like these that we contribute to creating better shopping experiences for IKEA customers by making sure products are available when and where they are needed.”

For DCSA, bringing a global cargo owner into the programme is a meaningful step. “Welcoming IKEA Supply AG to DCSA+ shows how important shared digital standards are for making global shipping more connected and efficient,” said Mariana Bock-Losada, Chief Growth Officer at DCSA. “Having a global leader like IKEA join us highlights just how valuable this work is for the entire industry.”

With carriers representing around 75 per cent of global container trade already participating in DCSA, the association expects cargo-owner involvement to strengthen implementation efforts and help narrow the gap between standard-setting in theory and reality. As more logistics stakeholders join through DCSA+, the programme continues to broaden its role as a forum for shared learning and coordinated digital progress across container shipping.
