Finastra, a global financial services software provider, has partnered with PT. Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI), one of Indonesia’s largest state-owned banks, to unify its domestic and international trade finance operations on Finastra’s Trade Innovation platform. This centralised system replaced multiple legacy platforms, accelerating customer onboarding by approximately 25% and shortening approval cycles.

Andrew Bateman, EVP for Lending at Finastra, quoted, “Modernising trade finance is essential for banks to serve their customers faster and to collaborate effectively with fintech and AI innovators.”

He further added, “Working with BNI, we delivered a scalable, centralised Trade Innovation platform that streamlines compliance, enhances straight-through processing, and positions the bank for rapid product innovation across its regional footprint.”

Consolidation and operational improvements

BNI selected Finastra’s Trade Innovation to consolidate fragmented trade finance processes, modernise compliance, and enable real-time processing and analytics. BNI is migrating nine international offices to a central system in Jakarta with Finastra’s support, ensuring streamlined processing and local regulatory compliance.

Since deployment, BNI has achieved many improvements, including customer onboarding accelerated by around 25%, with several services delivered under three-hour SLAs and an automated compliance and straight-through processing that reduced approval times, with most approvals completed within one day.

It also achieved a 10% increase in customer acquisition during the current fiscal year, supporting digital trade across over 160 branches and more than 2,645 trade customers. Also, the centralised platform enables advanced analytics, risk modelling, and integration with fintech and AI partners, supporting ongoing modernisation for BNI.

“Our relationship with Finastra is a strategic partnership. We collaborate not just on technology, but on shaping the future of trade transactions within BNI, across Indonesia, and beyond,” noted I G W Anantayoga, General Manager of Wholesale Product Transaction & Value Chain Division, BNI.

“Finastra’s solution has seamlessly integrated with our core banking system, providing instant insights that enable us to process trade documents quickly and accurately. Most approval decisions are made within a day, strengthening the customer experience. At the same time, automation has significantly streamlined operations and delivered measurable efficiencies,” he added.
