BPL creates new Funded Solutions team to expand insurance-based capital tools
Live Updates
BPL, a global broker specialising in credit and political risk insurance (CPRI), has created a new Funded Solutions team to develop insurance-based capital and credit management tools for banks, insurers, and investors.
The new platform will support transactions that combine insurance cover with cash funding. It is designed to help banks manage their capital more efficiently, while giving investors access to low-risk assets that provide stronger returns. Insurers can also use the platform to diversify their business and manage capacity.
The announcement comes as the CPRI market continues to grow. BPL’s insured portfolio now exceeds $100 billion, which could be interpret as a sign of increasing demand from banks and investors for credit protection. The company plans to extend these insurance tools to a wider group of investors, such as asset managers and pension funds, who are looking for investment-grade, stable assets.
The new Funded Solutions team will be led by directors George Biddulph and Harriet Rowland-Clark. Biddulph, who previously worked at Willis and Credit Suisse, will oversee banking-related activities. Rowland-Clark, previously of Aegon Asset Management, will focus on structuring and repackaging solutions for existing clients. They will work with Riz Sheikh, head of Significant Risk Transfer, and Gregory King-Underwood, head of Reinsurance and Portfolio Solutions.
According to BPL Chief Commercial Officer Charlie Radcliffe in a press release from the company, the new team will respond to growing demand from clients looking for innovative ways to manage capital. Biddulph said the platform will help channel capital towards key banking and development projects, while Rowland-Clark noted that more non-bank investors are beginning to see credit insurance as a valuable and reliable asset class.
