ISDA
The International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) is a nonprofit trade association that works to foster safe and efficient derivatives markets. It is a prominent global authority in the field of financial documentation, most notably for developing the ISDA Master Agreement, which is the industry standard for over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives transactions. By establishing robust netting and collateral provisions, the association plays a critical role in reducing credit and legal risks within the global financial system.
ISDA engages with legislators and policymakers worldwide to promote sound risk management practices and improve transparency in the treatment of derivatives as a risk management tool. Its membership includes over 960 institutions from 78 countries, ranging from international and regional banks to corporations, investment managers, insurance companies, energy and commodity firms, and market infrastructure entities like exchanges and clearing houses. The organization operates globally, with its headquarters in New York and a presence in the United Kingdom, Japan, and Hong Kong, and maintains a workforce distributed across 12 countries.
