ASEAN
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organisation comprising 11 member states in Southeast Asia. It operates as a consensus-driven body focused on fostering regional cooperation across economic, political, and socio-cultural domains. The ASEAN Secretariat, based in Jakarta, serves as the central administrative hub for the organisation.
In the realms of trade, treasury, and payments, ASEAN promotes regional economic integration through initiatives such as the ASEAN Free Trade Area and the development of regional digital payment linkages, including QR code payment interoperability. The organisation maintains various technical and regional bodies, such as the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office, which provides macroeconomic surveillance and manages the Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation to support regional financial and liquidity stability.
