Philippines expands digital payment infrastructure with new interoperable services
- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Philippine Payments Management Inc. (PPMI) launched InstaPay Cash-In, InstaPay for Business, and Direct Debit PH to enhance digital transactions for individuals and businesses.
- InstaPay Cash-In allows customers to transfer money between their own bank accounts and e-wallets without switching apps, with eight institutions currently participating.
- InstaPay for Business raises the transaction limit for real-time business transfers to ₱500,000, supporting payroll, loan disbursements, and supplier payments, with five institutions currently participating and more expected to join.
- The network is projected to include nearly all PPMI members by 2027, encompassing big banks, small banks, and electronic money issuers.
- Direct Debit PH enables customers to authorise automatic payments for recurring bills from bank or e-money accounts, offering a digital alternative to post-dated checks and is free for consumers.
- Around 26 banks are testing or preparing to participate, with a goal to onboard all PESONet members within one to two years, supporting BSP’s target for digital payments to account for 60-70% of retail transactions by 2028.
