Trade Document Object Consultation session by ICC DSI, ADB, and Teesside University
- On 5 August, the ICC Digital Standards Initiative, Teesside University, and the Asian Development Bank hosted a working session on the Trade Document Object (TDO) consultation, now open on the Digital Trade Navigator.
- The TDO consultation is experimental trade document artefacts designed to remain human-readable while embedding structured, verifiable, machine-readable data aligned with existing standards.
- Trade documents currently require repeated data re-entry and verification across exporters, banks, customs, and logistics, which the TDO aims to address by enabling data reuse and inspection by any system.
- The consultation publishes testable invoice and packing list files in three format variants with embedded machine-readable payloads and cryptographic verification for community feedback.
- The webinar included a live walkthrough of TDO files, covering format variants, embedded data, and hash verification, highlighting the importance of edge-created structured trade data linked to the Key Trade Documents and Data Elements framework.
