General Motors secures up to $4.5 billion parts purchasing deal to safeguard supply chain
- General Motors has arranged a purchasing facility worth up to $4.5 billion with Procura Auto Parts, a company specialising in sourcing rare or critical automotive parts.
- Procura will receive funding from a bank syndicate led by JPMorgan Chase and Banco Santander to prepay select suppliers on GM’s behalf.
- GM will issue irrevocable payment undertakings (IPUs) to repay Procura by 31st July 2029, allowing GM to keep inventory costs off its books while securing future supply.
- The arrangement includes interest payments, premiums on used parts, and fees on unused portions, with prepayments recorded as assets and IPUs as unsecured debt.
- The deal aims to mitigate supply chain disruptions that have affected the automotive industry, particularly for critical components such as semiconductor chips and rare earths.
