World Customs Organization

The World Customs Organization (WCO) is an independent intergovernmental organisation and the only global body exclusively focused on Customs matters. It represents 183 Customs administrations worldwide, which collectively process approximately 98% of global trade. The organisation is dedicated to the development of international standards, the simplification and harmonisation of Customs procedures, and the facilitation of international trade. Its work includes managing the international Harmonized System goods nomenclature and administering technical aspects of World Trade Organization agreements related to Customs valuation and rules of origin.

The WCO operates through a global network that includes regional bodies, intelligence liaison offices, training centres, and capacity-building offices. Its workforce is distributed across 64 countries, including Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, the United States, and Canada. Through its Publications and Data Solutions service, the WCO disseminates official standards and procedures to both member administrations and the private sector via online databases, structured content, and APIs.
