Financial Ombudsman Service
The Financial Ombudsman Service is the United Kingdom’s independent organisation for resolving disputes between consumers and financial businesses. Established by Parliament under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, it provides a free and impartial service for individuals and small businesses when complaints cannot be resolved directly with a regulated financial firm. Its remit covers a wide range of financial products and services, including banking, payments, insurance, investments, mortgages, pensions and consumer credit.
Alongside resolving individual cases, the Financial Ombudsman Service publishes insights into complaint trends and emerging issues across the financial sector. Its work helps improve standards of customer service, supports confidence in the UK’s financial system and provides valuable guidance for firms, regulators and policymakers on areas where industry practices continue to evolve.
