Alliance & Leicester
Alliance & Leicester was a British bank and former building society that provided a range of banking and financial services to personal, business, and public sector customers in the United Kingdom. Its service offerings included retail banking products such as mortgages, savings accounts, current accounts, and personal loans, alongside commercial banking services such as money transmission, lending, business and internet banking, and treasury services. The institution maintained a network of approximately 2,500 ATMs throughout the UK.
The business was acquired by the Santander Group in 2008 and subsequently integrated into Santander UK plc, with the process completed by 2011. While the historical banking entity ceased operations as a separate institution, the company’s legacy included significant retail and commercial operations based out of its headquarters in Narborough, Leicestershire.
