African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat is the executive body responsible for coordinating the implementation of the AfCFTA, a flagship project of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. The initiative aims to accelerate intra-African trade, establish a single market for goods and services, and boost Africa’s trading position in the global market. It works to facilitate the movement of capital and natural persons, enhance economic integration, and promote industrial and agricultural development across the continent.
The Secretariat coordinates efforts to create a liberalised market and lay the foundation for a Continental Customs Union. Its operations involve managing trade negotiations, supporting the development of regional value chains, and providing a common platform for Africa in global trade discussions. The organization maintains a widespread presence, with a workforce distributed across 20 countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and South Africa.
