Consensys has introduced Sovereign Network Interoperability, a technology stack that enables the routing and coordination of transactions between independently operated institutional ledgers. As financial institutions increasingly prefer running their own ledgers for privacy, regulatory compliance, and operational control, the need to connect with counterparties on other networks has grown substantially. Each new connection traditionally adds significant integration and operational complexity. David Cunningham from Consensys said, “Institutions need to reach new and existing counterparties without sacrificing privacy, while keeping control of their infrastructure. We are bringing deep protocol expertise, transaction coordination and complete support into one product.” “The result is a simpler path to each new connection, with verifiable outcomes and clear accountability for keeping the full stack working for years to come.”

Addressing multi-ledger challenges for financial institutions

Designed specifically for banks, custodians, asset managers, and financial market infrastructures, Sovereign Network Interoperability combines leading interoperability protocols into a single integrated package. The solution allows institutions to reach new counterparties and markets while settling transactions as securely as if all parties operated on a single ledger, without sacrificing control over their infrastructure and data. Sovereign Network Interoperability covers three essential functions i) routing ii) execution coordination iii) transaction tracking. Institutions specify their intended transactions, approved counterparties, and settlement requirements. The product selects a suitable route, manages execution, and monitors the transaction until completion. Consensys oversees all adapters, protocol releases, and tools as a single product.

Four institutional workflows supported

Sovereign Network Interoperability supports four critical institutional workflows. Collateral mobility. Connects asset and collateral platforms, allowing institutions to post eligible collateral to clearing houses or other approved counterparties. Securities settlement. Coordinates delivery of tokenised securities on one ledger against payment on another through delivery-versus-payment workflows. Wholesale and cross-currency payments. Connects banks’ currency ledgers to coordinate both legs of foreign-exchange transactions under agreed payment-versus-payment conditions. Funds and asset servicing. Links fund and banking platforms, enabling corporate treasurers to move idle cash into tokenised money market funds and back at any time, settling tokenised deposits against fund units in a single coordinated step.

Bridgeless interoperability and protocol standards

A key principle of Sovereign Network Interoperability is bridgeless interoperability. This means assets stay on their original ledgers, and cross-ledger actions are verified cryptographically. This eliminates the requirement for trusted intermediaries while maintaining institutional sovereignty. At the heart of the product is Consensys’s Cross Ledger Interoperability Protocol (CLIP), built on a decade of Consensys experience and zero-knowledge-proof research. The solution will also support the open Ethereum Economic Zone (EEZ) standard, the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol, and other leading protocols, alongside planned connectivity for Canton and Ethereum-compatible networks. Every pathway supported meets the privacy, verification, settlement, and recovery standards institutions expect.

Deployment flexibility and ongoing support

Reusable integrations and standardised software updates minimise the custom work needed for new counterparties or workflows. Consensys offers compatibility testing, security updates, coordinated upgrades, monitoring, and incident resolution, with connections revalidated when network changes occur. Institutions can operate the product independently, through a financial market infrastructure, or choose Consensys-managed services. In every deployment model, Consensys supplies the technology and ongoing maintenance. This launch extends Consensys’s strategy of helping institutions deploy, maintain, and connect sovereign ledgers. Institutions with existing networks can begin with a single supported connection, while those launching new networks can plan deployment and connectivity together from the outset.
